What is so special about Georgian cuisine?
Georgian cuisine is influenced by the Orient and the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on freshness and quality of ingredients. It is characterised by an emphasis on tradition, with recipes handed down from generation to generation, variety and contrast, combining savoury and delicate flavours, aromatic herbs and succulent meats. The people of the Caucasus are famous for their hospitality, which you can experience first-hand when you visit any Georgian restaurant in Prague. Honouring a guest with food and wine is a basic courtesy. Speaking of wine, Georgia is the cradle of winemaking and has been growing wine for over 8,000 years. So whether you choose traditional khachapuri pancakes, stuffed chinkali dumplings or grilled meat with spicy sauce from the varied menu, Georgia's unique wines complement all these Georgian specialities perfectly.

Gruzie restaurant

Address: Bílkova 861/14, Prague 1
Website: https://gruzierestaurant.cz/

The shortest way to Georgia, or at least to its flavours, is just a short walk from the Old Town Square. The Gruzie restaurant in the centre of Prague serves traditional Georgian specialities prepared by a chef born in the heart of Georgia - Tbilisi. The interior and live music complete the authentic experience. If you prefer a quieter environment, take advantage of the newly built 2nd floor. The portions are literally huge and could easily feed two people.

U Gruzína

Address: Karlovarská 45, Prague 17
Website: https://www.ugruzina.cz/

Located in Prague 17, U Gruzína is a gem for Georgian cuisine enthusiasts, operated by native Georgians who have been living in the Czech Republic for over 30 years. The menu showcases an array of traditional Georgian delights, including shashlik, pchali lobio, and chinkali, complemented by Georgian wines. Its serene setting and inviting garden enhance the dining experience and add to the atmosphere.

Baraqa Georgian Cuisine

Address: Kozí 915/7, Praha 1
Website: https://www.baraqa.cz/

Baraqa is a place you'll want to return to, despite the slightly higher prices (mainly due to its location). But the great experience of the visit more than makes up for it. This Georgian restaurant in the heart of Prague is based on family recipes and, in addition to Georgian specialities with khachapuri at the forefront, offers delicious Georgian wines, a warm, energetic atmosphere and live traditional music every night. It's a great place to go in a group to try as many different dishes as possible.

MATOKA Georgian Bistro / Bakery

Address: Hartigova 61, Prague 3 & Anglická 1, Prague 2
Website: https://www.matokageorgian.com/

MATOKA runs two Georgian restaurants in Prague, a bistro and a coffee & bakery. We dare say that some people discovered their love of khachapuri here. For us, we definitely recommend a traditional Georgian Napoleon cake. Food from both branches can also be ordered via Wolt, but if you can, go in person because the real Georgian atmosphere and hospitality cannot be replicated at home.

Polévkárna paní Mančo

Address: Bělehradská 77, Prague 2
Website: https://www.polevkarna-soup.com/

If you love soups, you must have heard of this bistro. And anyone who wants to taste the treasures of Georgian cuisine in Prague should too. Polévkárna paní Mančo is a smaller, but all the more cosy family bistro run by the energetic Manana Toidze (hence "Mrs Mančo") from Tbilisi, who has been satisfying Prague's hunger with her culinary skills since 2013. Offering a selection of soups, various types of khachapuri, and other Georgian dishes alongside international delights, it's definitely one of the best spot for Georgian food in Prague. However, its popularity means also one drawback: you might face a queue at lunchtime and potentially wait for a fresh batch of khachapuri, as they've run out.

AIA restaurant

Address: Sokolovská 2288/117, Prague 8
Website: https://aiapolevkarna.cz/

A small Georgian bistro in Prague 8 where you might feel like your Georgian grandmother is cooking for you. At lunchtime there is a hot buffet and various soups (gluten-free and lactose-free), and in the evening you can choose from a menu full of (not only) Georgian specialities. Vegetarian options are also available. We recommend trying one of the Georgian lemonades.

Bistro U Gogi

Address: 5.května 1040/38, Prague 4
Website: Facebook

In general, Georgian food in Prague isn't among the cheapest, but here it's still at an acceptable level compared to other Prague Georgian restaurants. Furthermore, the traditional Georgian hospitality is evident and the portions are more than generous. The bistro is smaller, and you'll be greeted by friendly service. The menu ranges from soups to khachapuri, khinkali, and other traditional Georgian specialties, as well as salads. Our top pick would be the khinkali dumplings.

Sun.Day Terrace

Address: Lublaňská 59, Prague 2
Website: https://sundayterrace.cz/

This place should be on your list of the best places where to enjoy Georgian food in Prague, especially during the summer months. As the name suggests, it features a wonderful terrace that provides a nice seating area on hot days. The food and atmosphere are beyond reproach, though the service can sometimes be a bit slower. However, after enjoying some excellent Georgian wine, this minor issue can easily be overlooked. :)

Georgian restaurant Samefo

Address: Legerova 1832/40, Prague 2
Website: Facebook

Deciding which Georgian restaurant in Prague to add as the last recommendation to our TOP 9 sparked a bit of a debate. Ultimately, we chose Restaurant Samefo, mainly for their excellent shashlik and kebab prepared on charcoal - just as it should be.  If you want to experience Georgia in Prague with all the trimmings, book a table on Friday or Saturday when your dinner is enhanced by a cultural experience, featuring not just live music but also Georgian dance.

Additional tips

Of course, there are more Georgian restaurants in Prague, and what we enjoyed might not be a perfect fit for everyone. Thus, we're adding three more recommendations that didn't make it into our selection based on some of our criteria, but are worth mentioning. These include Kakheti in Vinohrady, Gemoeby, and Sochi. The last two are a bit further from the center, but if you're passing by or don't mind a short trip, we believe they won't disappoint.
